Kim Kardashian Thought Divorce Would Ruin Her Career

Kim Kardashian, as we all should know by now, is not just a reality star, but a pretty savvy businesswoman, who’s managed to turn her and her family’s lives into actual industries. Sir Martin Sorrell, chief executive of WPP, knows that Kim means business, and that’s why he interviewed her for The Drum as part of the Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity. They chatted as part of the Hollywood and Trends in in Digital Storytelling session, which doesn’t sound that exciting, but Kim’s business nous was pretty impressive.

One massive thing she gave away, though, that most people wouldn’t really speak about at business interviews, was how she thought her career would end after her divorce from Kris Humphries, granted just 72 days after their E!-filmed wedding. She told her family at the time: ‘You guys, I think our careers are over. I hope you’ve saved your money.’

‘Now we’ll just continue to do our clothing stores and what we started off doing before the show.’ She added to Martin: ‘I totally thought it was over.’

He then commended her for having a bit of fear as he says that’s good in business.

As well as explaining how she got over such a tricky time: ‘I cancelled it all [book and perfume launches and tours] and took time for me,’ she spoke about how social media is a catalyst for her celebrity and how integral it’s been to her success. But while she had great things to say about her video game: ‘I’m always confident, but it was the first project in a long time that people were 100% positive,’ she wasn’t so beaming about Snapchat, one of the few forms of social media she’s yet to register to use. ‘If Snapchat was fun and I had the time I would join it.’ Ouch!

While friends using it have tempted her to join, the only thing that could win her over would be convenient ‘functionality’. Which might just be the most tech-geek-speak thing we’ve ever heard from this thoroughly-modern-celebrity. With both Kendall and Kylie Jenner on Snapchat, it might just mean that Kim’s a tad too old to use the very millennial form of communication.
