Oh, to be Kim Kardashian-West. Multi-millionaire, businesswoman and owner of a $60 million mega mansion in Hidden Hills – one of LA’s most affluent neighbourhoods – and a walk-in fridge/pantry bigger than our own flats. It’s not like we need to be reminded that the Kardashian-West world is not the same as ours, but once again we are as Kim reveals that she’s never used her own luxury swimming pool – a fact that even shocked her husband Kanye.
Opening the doors to her luxury California home to Architectural Digest, Kim and Kanye sat down to talk about their interior design tastes, how their family of six enjoy the home and to quiz each other about their favourite rooms. Asked 'when was the last time you used the pool?,' Kim smiled as she revealed that she has never, despite living in the home for four years.
'I’ve never used our pool, actually, Kim admitted, laughing at Kanye’s gobsmacked response.
Given that the pool is estimated to cost upwards of $50 million to design and install, Kanye’s shock isn’t surprising.
'I wanted a Jacuzzi, and then everyone kept designing them off to the side and it bothered you so much,' Kim explained to her husband. 'But the kids love to swim in a Jacuzzi, so you said, “No, the whole pool will be a Jacuzzi”.'
'We just make sure that it’s hot all the time,' she added casually.
'You know we don't have a Jacuzzi?,' Kim reminds Kanye in the same offhand tone we may remind our other half that the milk has run out (because who could forget that they don’t have a Jacuzzi?).
'Can you believe that, can you believe we don't have a Jacuzzi?,' Kanye directed at the camera in an amused tone.
Can you say #RichPeopleProblems?
The interview and feature in Architectural Digest come after much speculation and interest surrounding the Kardashian-West design aesthetic and the home’s uber minimalistic style; a choice that have some fans dubbing it ‘mausoleum’ or ‘funeral home’ like.
'Starting a thread of pottery barn home decor items that could help make kim kardashian's home look a little less like a mausoleum [sic],' one fan joked on Twitter.
'Kim Kardashian’s home decor is proof that money does not equal taste. Seriously, it looks like a mausoleum/ horror movie [sic],' another commented.
Designed in collaboration with designer Axel Vervoordt, Kanye explained to Architectural Digest how he instantly fell in love with Vervoordt’s minimalist style: 'When I saw the kind of work he was doing, I thought, This man could design Batman’s house. I had to work with him.'
