Just days after reaching billionaire status, Kim Kardashian is already starting to receive backlash. Jessica DeFino, an ex-employee of the Kardashian-Jenners, recently slammed her former employer on Twitter over her 'poorly paid' role. 'I had to buy groceries at the 99 Cents Only Store when I worked as an editor on the Kardashian-Jenner Official Apps', she claims, 'and got reprimanded for freelancing on the side'.
She later elaborated on her tweet, adding: 'to be clear: Love the 99 Cents Only Store, fantastic produce department. And the freelancing thing was in my contract. It’s an awful, exploitative policy that makes sure eager, inexperienced & poorly paid employees remain inexperienced & poorly paid.'
Jessica DeFino is now a beauty reporter across a variety of magazines and is known for calling out brands and holding people accountable in the industry. Whilst working for the Kardashians, Jessica is credited with launching all five Kardashian Official Apps as well as creating and writing content for Khloe Kardashian and Kendall Jenner across various sites.
Another beauty writer, Elizabeth Denton, also alleges to have experienced difficulties whilst working for the Kardashians. She said: ‘They made me do a 10 page edit test on the Eve of Christmas and then ghosted me.'
The Kardashians have yet to respond to either of their former employees, but if the comments under Jessica’s original tweet are anything to go by it seems that people aren’t happy with the news, especially since the family could afford to have paid their employees more.
Adding fuel to the fire, Kim Kardashian’s latest tweet was an image of one of the 14 Friesian horses that the family keep on their ranch in Wyoming after celebrating North’s cowboy-themed seventh birthday there.
Grazia has reached out to a representative of Kim for comment.
