Men celebrities get very different treatment to women on the red carpet, and this is true the world over. For example, we've never seen a man strut his way down the mini-catwalk for the mani-cam, and, as Cate Blanchett rightly pointed out at the SAG awards, men’s outfits aren’t lingeringly filmed from the bottom up when they’re just trying to talk about their craft.
Step in Buzzfeed, who took a break from writing lists to do a pretty cool, yet simple interview with Kevin Spacey on the red carpet at Sunday night's Oscars to show up the way women are treated so differently. The House Of Cards actor took the whole thing in his stride, laughing off the unfamiliar questions that you can bet his co-star Robin Wright has to answer all of the time.
When asked who did his hair, he said ‘It just happens, it’s not a big deal’
And then when asked about his mani-pedi, he laughed and asked the interviewer: ‘My what? Did you start smoking before you came here today?’
‘Oh god no, absolutely not’ was his reply to questions about whether he’s spent the past few months dieting. Then, when asked if he was wearing any Spanx, he replied: ‘What? Buzzfeed are so fucked up, you guys are so fucked up.’
We’re all for chatting about the outfits people wear at the Oscars – it is one of the fashion highlights of the year, and fashion is huge, beautiful business. But asking actresses about their diet regimes and whether they’re wearing control pants really is about as necessary as getting Bono and U2 in to perform at the event. Oh wait...
