Taylor Swift’s hit single Bad Blood is widely believed to be a not-so-subtle dig at her industry enemy. In the recently released video, Selena Gomez dons a wig to play Arsyn - an enemy of Taylor’s character who looks an awful lot like Katy Perry does...
Now it seems that Katy has hit back, recording a brand-new song called 1984 - seemingly a snarky nod to Taylor’s album 1989. Both titles refer to the years the respective singers were born.
The animosity between the two stars became public last year, when Taylor revealed in an interview that Bad Blood was about a feud with another female artist. She didn’t mention Katy by name, but said: ‘She basically tried to sabotage an entire arena tour. She tried to hire a bunch of people out from under me. And I’m surprisingly non-confrontational - you would not believe how much I hate conflict. So now I have to avoid her. It’s awkward, and I don’t like it.’
Soon after, Katy posted a cryptic tweet saying: ‘Watch out for the Regina George in sheep’s clothing…'
The Firework singer has so far failed to comment publicly on the feud, but earlier this year she hinted that she might soon be ready to tell her side of the story. ‘If someone is trying to defame my character,’ she told Billboard, ‘you’re going to hear about it.’
Maybe the lyrics to 1984 are going to tell us what really happened, from Katy’s perspective. We can’t wait to find out!
