Remember simpler times, when the hot topic of the week was Orlando Bloom’s penis? Back in 2016, the Lord of the Rings actor was photographed paddle boarding with his girlfriend (and now fiancée) Katy Perry. The images were not particularly remarkable, other than the fact that Orlando was as naked as the day he was born. The internet practically melted. Now, Katy has explained why he chose to go au natural for his foray into watersports.
Speaking to US personality Howard Stern, Katy insisted that she had no idea that they were being photographed during their summer expedition. 'I mean, I would have never like set him up, if I had a real thought, but in the back of my mind I am Jim Carrey in The Truman Show a little bit,’ she explained. ‘So I thought maybe there would be a chance [of being papped]. I would say I'm a little more of the pragmatic in the partnership.’
But why disrobe in the first place? According to Katy, it was all about fitting in. 'Well it was Europe. And honestly we had had a pretty chill time for a week and everywhere we looked it was like everybody’s naked,’ she says. ‘It’s Europe, it’s Italy. And I think he wanted to fit in with the locals and it was the end of the trip.’
Orlando has discussed the incident before, with Howard Stern himself, and described his surprise when his publicist called to tell him the full frontal images were doing the rounds. But he’s modest about the whole thing, and the resulting online thirst concerning the size of his appendage. ‘It is really not that big’, The Sun reports him as saying. ‘Things are expanded on cameras with a big optical lens. It is an optical illusion.’
Howard is a big fan of Orlando, telling Katy that her fiancé is ‘f***ing handsome.’ Katy joked that his handsome face is ‘why I'm in this mess’, referring to her pregnancy. The pair are set to welcome their first child together any day now.
