Who can forget Katy Perry’s Met look from last year? For 2018’s theme Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination, the pop superstar donned a massive pair of angel wings – which unforgettably clipped somebody’s head on the red carpet – with a gold chainmail mini dress and thigh-high gold boots. But, this year, we are pleased to report that Katy upped her game yet again – because she saw the__ Camp: Notes On Fashion theme as a prime opportunity to dress up as a chandelier. Like, a real, working chandelier - which featured numerous candles, draped crystal beading and a matching chandelier hat! (And yes, she even sang Sia's Chandelier!)
Obviously, just like previous years, she teamed up with Moschino’s creative director Jeremy Scott for the look. Giving us an insight into just how extravagant Perry’s ensemble was, the designer told Vogue, ‘Who has ever been to a ball that did not have a chandelier? The idea of elegance itself is quite camp and I wanted to play with that concept, poke a lil fun at it with a loving nudge. The look is extremely complicated, perhaps my most complicated creation to date. There is a built-in corset consisting of 18 steel bones and two hidden battery packs to illuminate the lights. I mean, who wants to wear a chandelier that doesn’t light up!’ How long did all that take to make, we hear you ask? Six weeks!
As if six weeks of hard work wasn't quite enough to last Katy the evening, when she was inside the ball she made a quick outfit change to transform into a glittery burger. With the same crystal headpiece still on, she accessorised the cumbersome costume with a toothpick coming out of her head. But it didn't look like Jennifer Lopez was a fan of the outfit swap, as she walked straight past the singer when she bumped into her changing in the bathroom. Now we're just left wondering how extra Katy's dress is going to be when she gets married to Orlando Bloom.
