Sometimes it's hard to remember that Katy Perry, for all her history of saying what she likes, dating slightly sleazy men and just generally being a hugely successful international popstar, once tried to give fame a go as a Christian singer.
Well, it turns out she still retains a bit of that spirituality, because she's said that she needs a 'connection' to sleep with someone. 'I'm not like Professor Higgins [the professor in My Fair Lady, who gets Eliza Doolittle to say 'the rain in Spain stays mainly in the plain', if you remember] with my sex life. I'm not super strict,' she said about those she chooses to sleep with.
She added, though: 'For me, the most important thing about sex is connection.'
When asked by comedian Chelsea Handler – yep, Cosmopolitan drafted in Chelsea to interview Katy for the special cover feature in the magazine, which will be on every single international edition's cover – the longest she's gone without sex, Katy replied: 'Maybe six months or a year. I don't stay single for long. I carry a lot of rose quartz, which attracts the male.'
She added, according to Refinery29: 'Maybe I need to calm it down with the amethyst.'
She also mentions her previous relationships with Russell Brand (they were married for 14 months) and John Mayer (who she had an on-off thing with before splitting from him this year) 'I know it sounds really hippie-s**t, but I'm living in the now and not fantasising about the future or [being] torn up about the past. I'm super Eckhart Tolle.'
Who's Eckhart Tolle? The author of New Age self-help guide* The Power Of Now*, no less.
Ah, so she's definitely moved from Christianity to a new age-y yoga spirituality. Quartz she has.
