In an age where you can digitally alter your photos on apps like FaceTune, with no photoshopping experience needed, it's refreshing when you see celebrities, and people with big followings, going against the trend by showing their real bodies. It reminds us that we're all human, and, actually, there's nothing wrong with our bodies in their natural form, whether or not we have cellulite, sometimes struggle to get into our fave jeans, or have wrinkles.

But one celebrity who has always unapologetically been ahead of the real beauty trend is Kate Winslet{ =nofollow}. Most recently, the actress has been praised for claiming that she chose not to edit her body during a sex scene for her most recent drama, Mare of Easttown. The actress claims that she refused director Craig Zobel's offer to edit a scene in which she showed a 'bulgy bit of belly' - telling him 'Don't you dare'. And this isn't it. She also says that she sent back a promotional poster for the series, as it had been digitally altered 'too much'. Kate - who plays Marianne “Mare” Sheehan, a detective investigating a murder in small town Pennsylvania - said in an interview with The New York Times: 'I’m like: ‘Guys, I know how many lines I have by the side of my eye, please put them all back.'

For those who are fans of Kate, this comes as no surprise. She has long spoken about body positivity, and resisted the urge to be photoshopped. The actress hit headlines in 2003 for criticising British GQ for retouching her body on the cover. 'The retouching is excessive,' she said in the now famous statement. 'I do not look like that and more importantly, I don't desire to look like that.' A few years later, and in 2015, she revealed she'd signed a contract with cosmetics giant L'Oréal which stated that her photos cannot be retouched.

Kate has also been vocal about raising her daughter, Mia, now 20, in a body positive environment - because that was something Kate says she didn't have growing up. 'As a child, I never heard one woman say to me, “I love my body”,' Kate has previously said. 'Not my mother, my elder sister, my best friend. No one woman has ever said, “I am so proud of my body.” So I make sure to say it to Mia [her daughter], because a positive physical outlook has to start at an early age.’

She spoke this during a programme with Bear Grylls when Mia was 14, telling the presenter that she showed her daughter she was thankful for her body. 'So, I stand in front of the mirror and say to Mia, ‘We are so lucky that we've got a shape. We’re so lucky we’re curvy. We’re so lucky that we’ve got good bums. ’And she’ll say, ‘Mommy, I know, thank God,"' she said.

Also, in that interview, Kate gave some words of wisdom about what truly makes us happy. (And hint: it isn't losing weight, or drinking smoothies, or erasing any lines on FaceTune.) 'Happiness it isn't a search for facial, physical perfection,' she said. 'It comes from inside.' We can definitely agree with that.
