Swimsuit model and actress Kate Upton might not be the standard sample size most world-renowned models tend to be, but that doesn’t mean she’s any less happy about the way she looks, despite everyone and their mum having opinions on those infamous curves of hers.
When asked about the way she perceives herself, she said, ‘It’s not like I look in the mirror and think, “I’m killing it. My eyes are killing it.” No, a lot of times I’m puffy and bloated. I like myself in general, but there are days when you just don’t.’
Kate then explained that sometimes other people like to make little sly digs at her. ‘People say, “Oh, wow, you’re healthy.” And you’re like, ‘Wait, what? I’ve been begging for this body my whole life!’ And we’re like, really? Has ‘healthy’, the word which is there to indicate the general physical wellbeing of a person, really been hijacked by some to mean a bad thing?
She then explained, in the interview with UK Elle, that there’s a Kate Upton’s-cleavage-sized chasm between what agents will want from her and what the clients – the ones paying – want from her. ‘Agents have put me under pressure to lose weight in the past. I would go on set and clients loved me. And then I would go into an agency and feel like crap about myself. They would say, “Just lose five more [pounds]!”’
However, she damned all of this nastiness, adding, ‘But I couldn't give a crap. I still don’t.’
Kate’s utterly evolved views on body image are almost enough for us to forgive her for The Other Woman. Almost.
