On the first evening of her royal tour in Sweden, the Duchess of Cambridge accompanied husband Prince William to a dinner hosted by the British Ambassador in Stockholm, Stefan Lofven, wearing a stunning floral dress by Erdem.
The pregnant royal, who is expecting her third child in April, showed off her burgeoning baby bump in an exquisite high-neck dress in a flattering chartreuse hue, a colour that we’ve not often seen the Duchess wearing. The blue and yellow hues of the floral print are a nod to Sweden’s national colours, proving once again that Kate’s stylist has done her homework when it comes to diplomatic dressing.
Designed by Canadian favourite Erdem, whose designs she has worn several times before, the £1,945 ‘Stephanie’ gown struck exactly the right chord for the evening and was a marked departure from some of her ‘safer’ outfit choices. Princess Eugenie chose a dress by the designer for the announcement of her engagement to Jack Brooksbank last week, proving that he is a real favourite of the family.
Also in attendance at the event was Swedish export and Oscar-nominee Alicia Vikander. The new Lara Croft chose a conservative electric blue Louis Vuitton dress for the occasion, which saw her speaking to the royals about her native country.
Earlier in the day the Duchess chose a shearling Burberry coat to play local sport ‘bandy hockey’. Despite Kate’s prowess in field hockey, which she played at school, William actually beat her at, scoring two goals to her one. How unchivalrous of him…
The four-day royal tour of Scandinavia will see the parents-of-two visiting various places in Sweden and Norway, with some inevitable amendments due to Kate’s severe morning sickness. Sadly their children Prince George and Princess Charlotte are not in attendance, with the former at school and the latter now at nursery.
