While the Duchess of Cambridge rarely puts a foot wrong sartorially, it's rare that she moves away from her failsafe style formula: colourful skirt suits, embellished gowns and well-cut coats.
At her latest engagement, however, Kate Middleton decided to test out one of this season's most ubiquitous - yet potentially tricky to wear - trends: the 'cold shoulder.'
Hosting the SportsAid 40th Anniversary dinner at Kensington Palace, the Duchess opted for a form-fitting gown in royal blue by Roland Mouret, complete with cut-out detailling on the shoulder.
The Duchess, who has been a patron of the charity since 2013, delivered a speech to young athletes hoping to compete in the Rio Olympics this summer, and was joined by long-term SportAid supporters like gold medallist Christine Ohoruogu.
The blue 'Nansen' gown is from Mouret's latest collection, and cost £2,095. It's also available in sleek black over on Net a Porter.
It's not the first time that Kate has opted to wear Mouret's designs. The Belgian designer - who is best known for the ubiquitous 'Galaxy' dress of the mid '00s, as worn by the likes of Victoria Beckham and Jennifer Aniston - was responsible for the sophisticated cream gown with an embellished neckline that the Duchess chose for the Mandela premiere in 2013.
