Raiding your grandmother-in-law’s jewellery box is sure to feel like a treasure hunt but when the Queen is your husband’s grandma, you’re guaranteed to stumble upon some spectacular jewels.
And that is exactly what Kate Middleton discovered, as she prepared for her debut solo tour. Ahead of the highly-anticipated trip to the Netherlands, the Duchess imitated the Queen’s precision to detail, as she coordinated her outfit to coincide with her visit to the Mauritshuis to view the iconic Girl With A Pearl Earring by Johannes Vermeer.
Donning a pair of the Queen’s very own pearl earrings, the Duchess was shown around the permanent collection by the museum’s director, Emilie Gordenker and posed for photographs beside the iconic painting.
Emilie, who also donned pearl earrings for the special occasion, told the Telegraph that the Duchess described the visit as “a real treat” and seemed to particularly enjoy seeing The Goldfinch by Carel Fabritius. And having studied History of Art at St Andrews University, it comes as no surprise.
The Duchess spent the rest of her solo trip at a community project in Rotterdam which aims to teach young people practical skills such as bicycle maintenance and wood work. A scheme which she hopes to bring back to the UK.
Her first solo trip was undoubtedly a huge success and there is sure to be another in the works shortly, as the Royals aim to re-build relationships with the European Union following Brexit.
Although we can’t help but hope that she brings Prince George along too next time, as we've been missing the adorable snaps taken during the Canadian Royal Tour...
