Kate Middleton and Prince William were joined by Prince Harry to support a cause that all three hold dear, appearing at the London Eye to mark World Mental Health Day.

The three young royals took to the stage at a reception organised by their charity Heads Together, where they met with people who had either received or given crucial emotional support at difficult points in their lives.

In an impassioned joint speech, William reiterated that mental health must not be seen as ‘a dirty word,’ and should instead be something that is discussed freely and openly, without stigma.

‘Not seeking help at those times when it all seems too much, or we are depressed or anxious, can impact the rest of our lives,’ he said. ‘Put simply, the three of us want to make asking for help no longer a big deal.’

‘All of us know someone who has been through difficult emotional times, and we know how hard it can be to see a way forward,’ Kate added. ‘William, Harry and I feel it is our duty to do what we can, with your help, to shine a spotlight on emotional wellbeing and highlight the support that is out there to prevent or manage the pain at difficult times.’

Harry then encouraged members of the public to get involved with the London Marathon, which Heads Together has partnered with for next year’s event.

‘We want as many London Marathon runners as possible, spectators around the course and people watching at home to get involved and make it a marathon for mental health,’ Harry said. ‘All of us have mental health. So the more we all get behind this topic, the more we can help not just the individuals suffering, but also their entire families and work colleagues as well.’

The Duchess chose to wear a knee-length dress by Kate Spade in a pink floral print, with a pussybow neckline and pleated front. Priced at £240, we predict this to be the latest item to benefit from the Middleton effect – race you to the checkout….

After the reception, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge headed to the London Eye with Prince Harry, where they were joined by some of the guests who had shared their stories earlier.

Once inside, Harry also managed to prove that being royal doesn’t mean that you can’t act like an enthusiastic tourist. The prince was photographed looking through the capsule walls and pointing at Buckingham Palace to check whether the flag was flying. It wasn’t – meaning that Her Majesty was not at home, and Harry couldn’t greet his grandma from afar.

Later, the Eye – and other iconic buildings around the world - were lit up in purple to mark World Mental Health Day.
