Back in April, Kate Middleton told one parent that she would ‘see [them] at the school gate’ in September, when Prince George will start school at Thomas’s Battersea, and it seems that the Duchess of Cambridge will be staying true to her word.

A new statement from Kensington Palace has confirmed that the Duke and Duchess will accompany their eldest son on his first day of primary school, which falls on September 7th. 'The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, accompanying Prince George, will be met on arrival at the school by the Head of Lower School, Helen Haslem, who will then escort Their Royal Highnesses to Prince George's reception classroom.'

Earlier reports had already suggested that Kate - and not a nanny as previously assumed - would be doing the school run with George, taking it in turns with her husband Prince William unless their work schedules clash with pick-up time.

‘They are very hands on parents and although they acknowledge that it might cause a bit of a buzz to start with, they are hopeful it will soon settle down,’ a source told the Daily Mail.

‘It’s very important to both of them that George enjoys as normal a childhood as possible, particularly as he settles into a new school, and for them this includes dropping him off at the school gates,’ they added.

Another source told the newspaper that ‘Kate wants George – and later Charlotte – to have the same school experience that she did as a child. Both she and William very much agree on this and think George will be very, very happy [at Thomas’s].’

Thomas’s Battersea is a half-hour drive from Kensington Palace, where the young royals will settle later this summer. Though the co-educational day school does have a branch in Kensington, it’s thought that William and Kate opted for the Battersea branch due to a preference for the ‘village’ feel of the area.

The news that Prince George will attend Thomas's has already caused a surge of interest from prospective buyers with one eye on a catchment area with a royal seal of approval: one south London estate agent revealed that enquiries for properties in the Battersea area have shot up by 60 percent.
