Prince William and Kate Middleton have given us another insight into family life with the Cambridges – and you’ll probably be able to empathise…
The Duke and Duchess left Prince George and Prince Charlotte at home at Anmer Hall to attend a gala dinner at nearby Houghton Hall, the Norfolk home of their friends the Marquess and Marchioness of Cholmondeley.
The ‘Taste of Norfolk’ charity event was in aid of East Anglia’s Children’s Hospice, a cause close to the couple’s hearts, raising money to build a new hospice building, the Nook – an appeal which the Duchess helped to launch in November 2014.
On the menu was a delicious array of dishes, made using locally sourced produce by a clutch of Michelin starred chefs - and the Duchess jokingly implied that her husband might be looking forward to taking a day off from home-cooked food.
‘William has to put up with my cooking most of the tine,’ she revealed in conversation with the five chefs.
‘It’s the reason I’m so skinny,’ quipped the Prince. What a joker.
According to People magazine, guests sat down for five courses, including squid ink crackers, scallop ceviche, wild sea bass, venison with beetroot puré and Norfolk raspberries. Fancy.
Middleton outfit-watchers will doubtless recognise her sequinned Jenny Packham gown. Once again, the Duchess chose to recycle a dress she’s worn for a previous engagement, and in this case, the outfit has special significance for Kate – she wore the dress in 2011 for her first official outing as a member of the royal family, to the ARK gala dinner.
What difference does five years make? Not much – while this time the Duchess wore her hair up in a loose chignon, she still teamed the dramatic Packham creation with her failsafe LK Bennett heels.
