Kate Middleton is set to embark on her first solo overseas engagement. The Duchess of Cambridge will travel to Holland next month for a one-day trip, taking in the Hague and Rotterdam.
The visit will mark the first time that Kate has travelled abroad on a royal engagement without her husband, Prince William.
‘The Duchess of Cambridge will visit the Netherlands on October 11 for a day of official engagements in the Hague and Rotterdam,’ a tweet from Kensington Palace revealed. ‘On arrival, the Duchess is pleased to have the opportunity to pay a courtesy call on His Majesty King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands.’
As part of her short trip, the Duchess will also visit the At Home in Holland: Vermeer & his Contemporaries exhibition at the Mauritshuis art museum. She will then head to the British ambassador’s official residence, where she will host a round table discussion focussing on addiction, intervention, family and mental health. Attending will be representatives from the Trimbos Institute, a mental health research centre, and from two of the Duchess’s charities, the Anna Freud Centre for Children and Families and Action on Addiction.
Afterwards, Kate will then head to Rotterdam, to visit a community initiative where local residents share their skills with one another. According to a spokesperson from the palace, ‘The Duchess of Cambridge is very much looking forward to her visit to the Netherlands.'
The Duchess will visit British Columbia and the Yukon in Canada later this month, joined by her husband and two young children. Starting on September 24, the Canadian tour will be one-year-old Princess Charlotte’s first overseas royal engagement.
