Kensington Palace has responded to rumours that The Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton has had ‘baby Botox’ after a cosmetic surgeon posted ‘before and after’ pictures of the royal on Instagram.
Dr Munir Somji, of Dr Medi Spa Clinic on Harley Street reportedly posted side-by-side images of Kate Middleton, which have now been deleted, with the caption; ‘Our Kate loves a bit of baby Botox. Note the reduction of fine lines on the forehead. But also note the depression of the medial (middle part) brow but elevation of the lateral tail of the brow.’
While Dr Munir Somji wasn’t claiming Kate is a client of his, Kensington Palace’s statement made it quite clear that even if she was, we wouldn’t be hearing about it.
In a statement to the New York Post, a spokesman for Kensington Palace said that the Instagram post is ‘categorically not true' and ‘in addition, The Royal Family never endorse commercial activity.’
And as for the clinic? Here’s the official line; ‘We wouldn’t be able to disclose whether she is a client or not,’ marketing manager Sammy Curry told The Post.
‘We have non-disclosure agreements where we can’t disclose our high-end clients. We absolutely can’t comment at all that she has come to us.’
Whether or not Kate has had Botox becomes irrelevant here, but it is interesting that Kensington Palace felt they had to step in and make sure everyone is very clear that Kate hasn’t been to this clinic. Is having Botox really still that much of a taboo? The rumours of Kate’s Botox (baby or otherwise) have been circulating for some time, with the same judgemental headlines and comments from the public, which says more about our attitudes to plastic surgery than anything else.
Similar rumours flew around the internet last year when everyone was convinced Meghan Markle had had a niche surgery procedure to remove bunions.
‘Meghan’s scar is 100 percent due to open bunion surgery,’ Kumar Kunasingham, a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at BMI Shirley Oaks hospital told The Sun at the time.
‘While the scar is only four-five cm long, this type of surgery can be very painful and it can take up to three months before patients can wear heels again.’
