What with Harry and Meghan making the shock announcement that they are 'stepping back' as senior royals, you might have forgotten that today is Kate Middleton’s 38th birthday. But today, Kensington Palace shared a new, previously unseen picture of Kate to celebrate. In the snap, the smiling royal sits on a fence as she looks away from the photographer, Matt Porteous. She’s kept her look casual, opting for a grey jumper and jeans. The picture came with the following message, ‘Thank you everyone for all your lovely messages on The Duchess of Cambridge’s birthday!’
(In case you're wondering Meghan and Harry (via the Sussex Royal Instagram account) have commented on the picture, writing on Instagram, 'Wishing a very happy birthday to The Duchess of Cambridge today!')
According to People, Kate has already had her birthday soirée, as the site says she hosted some of her and William's best friends at their country home in Norfolk, Anmer Hall, over the weekend. The guestlist included Kate’s parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, William’s lifelong friend (and godfather to Princess Charlotte) Thomas van Straubenzee and his fiancée Lucy Lanigan-O’Keeffe (a teacher at Prince George and Princess Charlotte’s school), James Meade and his wife Lady Laura (godmother to Prince Louis) and David and Rose, Marquess and Marchioness of Cholmondeley, who live at nearby Houghton Hall and have been friends with the royals for over a decade.
What did they get up to? Activities over the weekend usually include shooting and a dinner with the Queen at Sandringham House. And they also joined Her Majesty at St. Mary Magdalene church on her Sandringham estate for morning service. But, still - despite the early party, Kate still might be celebrating today, as last year it was reported that she had a tea party at Kensington Palace on her actual birthday.
