Rumours that lovebirds Pete Davidson and Kate Beckinsale were ‘slowing down’ their romance have been confirmed, as a source speaking to Entertainment Tonight revealed that the break up is now official. Following a whirlwind five months of dating – and lots of public making out – the pair’s split comes after Beckinsale spoke candidly about the challenges of dating in the public eye while they were still an item: ‘I’ve never dated anyone who comes with their own bag of mischief’, she told the LA times in March this year, presumably referring to the double-jeopardy of conducting a personal relationship while mutually famous. ‘It’s all quite shocking, and something to get used to. I think if you liked the person less, you would bow out of it. If that were the main thrust of the relationship, there would be a problem. But it’s not.’
Oh, Kate! Her now-ex Davidson likewise opened up about the relationship while it was still ‘on’, addressing criticisms of the pair’s age gap (Kate, at 45, is 20 years older than Pete.) On Saturday Night Live, he called out society’s double standards when it comes to men and women dating across decades: ‘It doesn’t really bother us, but then again, I’m new to this, so if you have questions about relationships with a big age difference just ask Leonardo DiCaprio, Jason Statham, Michael Douglas, Richard Gere, Jeff Goldblum, Scott Disick, Dane Cook, Derek Jeter, Bruce Willis, Harrison Ford, Tommy Lee, Alec Baldwin, Sean Penn and whoever the president of France is, Mel Gibson, Billy Joel, Mick Jagger, Sylvester Stallone, Eddie Murphy, Kelsey Grammer, Larry King, Larry King, Larry King, Rod Stewart and Donald Trump.’ Hear, hear.
