‘Nicki Minaj Is Like A Shoe And The Matrix Is Like The Bible’, All The Funny Shit Kanye West Told Oxford Students

He also told them how ridiculous it is to buy $5,000 shirts while wearing a $3,000 shirt…

The self-made and self-professed legend that is Kanye West gave a talk at Oxford last night and we kind of love him for it. It wasn’t at Oxford University’s Union where the likes of Katie Price and Marine Le Pen have got to speak, but at the National Museum of History. And he made history, turning up at 3pm on the 2nd of March, asking the crowd ‘it’s still February, correct?’ and then re-arranging the furniture on stage and removing the microphone as it made the whole thing ‘aesthetically better’.

And here are the fun things he said to the 350 lucky students who got to attend his talk (over 5,000 people had applied for tickets):

‘The Matrix is like the Bible of the post-information age.’

'One of my biggest Achilles heels has been my ego. And if I, Kanye West, the very person, can remove my ego, I think there’s hope for everyone.'

He also said some pretty resonant stuff, like: ‘People say it takes a village to raise a child. People ask me how my daughter is doing. She’s only doing good if your daughter’s doing good. We’re all one family.’

'We have the resources as a civilisation to make a utopia, but we’re led by the most greedy and the least noble.'

'Beauty has been stolen from the people and is being sold back to them as luxury'

But he also said stuff like 'Clothing should be like food. There should never be a $5000 sweater. You know what should cost $5000? A car...’ before explaining his t-shirt was probably $3,000 ‘but I got it for free from the designer so.’

‘People say I’ve got a bad reputation. I think I’ve got the best reputation in the building.’

‘I think the Yeezys [a shoe] I was doing over there were comparable to that Nicki Minaj verse [in Monster, from Kanye’s album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy]’

If you’re still intrigued, check out the full copy on The Tab’s write-up of his performance, we don’t think there’ll be anything like it in Oxford again, save for the bedrooms of students who like to have profound chats on a come-down…
