Kanye West: Glastonbury Petition To Cancel Him Was ‘Insult To All Music Fans’

Kanye West is due to headline Glastonbury this weekend, despite a whopping 134,000 people signing an e-petition called: ‘Cancel Kanye West's headline slot and get a rock band.’

But he’s got words for those who think he’s not up to the challenge of headlining Britain’s biggest music festival, saying its existence is: ‘an insult to music fans all over the world’

When asked if he thought the opposition of him was borne of a racist refusal for some white people to accept a black headliner, he replied: ‘I’m not concerned about race. I don’t think it has to do with race at all. There’s something abnormal about anyone speaking their mind in today’s society,’

He added, though: ‘It’s even more shocking or radical for someone to see a darker skin be so confident. Because we’ve been advertised against it. So it’s surprising when someone darker really believes in themselves and speaks up about it.’

As for speaking up, he told Q his problems with the celebrities who are such gold diggers (get it!?) they won’t stick up for the little man: ‘When people expect a celebrity to do or say anything you’re talking to the wrong group of people. They won’t use their voice for the people. They’ll only use their voice for money.’

‘Print it as loud, as fucking loud, as you want to. Print it. And I don’t care what parties I don’t get invited to afterwards. 90% of celebrities only use their voice for the purpose of making money for themselves.’

He added, perhaps hinting at giving fans the sort of mid-Glasto set monologue you’d much likelier expect from a guy who’s got really high and stumbled upon your tent at 3am: ‘I’ll address [politics] however it needs to be addressed, because the world is broken. Somebody’s got to be crazy enough to put themselves and their wellbeing on the line for truth. Somebody’s gotta do it.’

If that’s not forewarning an incredible ‘rant’ from the rapper come his Glasto set, then we don’t know what is…we eagerly anticipate whatever he does next.
