This weekend we had a lot of stuff to focus on.
There was Pride for instance; a glorious, global, and mostly positive (Turkey we're looking at you) experience celebrating LGBT rights. Also, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland crashed out of the European Cup, which was very sad.
Then, there was Glastonbury which saw Adele wow, more mud than even Michael Eavis has ever seen and er, Coldplay. Oh yes, and there's the little matter of the country falling apart in front of our very eyes.
Probably not a good weekend to try and do something controversial.
Not one to be deterred by other people's opinions though, Kanye West chose this weekend to release the music video for his new single Famous - that's the one with the line about shagging Taylor Swift in*.* It's um, a real special creation. It's the kind of video that you'd get if you gave the most precocious kid in your GSCE art class unlimited cash and told him to let his beautiful imagination run free.
The video - you can only see a bit of it because Tidal (teeny snippet below - you don't need to see the rest) - is creepy, weird, designed to bait and, unfortunately, doesn't seem to be getting much of a reaction.
In the video, several celebrities lie naked next to Kanye West in bed. These include Taylor Swift, Kim Kardashian, Caitlyn Jenner, Anna Wintour, Amber Rose, Rihanna, Bill Cosby and Ray J.
The celebrities are waxworks. Probably. Although some of them seems to be moving so like, maybe some of them are real. Either way, it's creepy and looks like the grainy kind of home camera footage that gets used as police evidence in true crime documentaries.
At one point, the music stops, and you can just hear breathing. Someone's snoring. My money's on Trump.
The video's 10:14 minutes long guys. It's 10:14 minutes of watching people 'sleep'.
According to Kayne, who spoke to Vanity Fair about his 'concept' before the release, the video is not in support or against any of the celebrities who appear. This was in response to a question about Bill Cosby's inclusion - currently on trial for sexual assault (he's been accused by over 50 women) - and whom Kanye has previously tweeted about, questioning his guilt. 'It’s a comment on fame.' Kanye says. Though what that comment is, isn't elaborated on.
Being on Tidal means that you can't see how many people have watched the video but what we do know is that not one of the celebrities in the video have yet to mention the video on Twitter. Even Kim Kardashian who retweeted a tweet from Scooter Braun trailing the video's release, remained silent, instead opting to send or retweet 10 tweets about an epsiode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians and 18 tweets about the Kim Kardashian mobile game.
Kanye seemed sad. In a now deleted Tweet he said, 'Can somebody sue me already #I'llwait'
Might be waiting for a while buddy.
