Move aside, Dakota Johnson and Jon Hamm: In what is officially the strangest celebrity coupling of the year, it has been revealed that Cindy Crawford’s model-of-the-moment daughter Kaia Gerber is dating Eastenders star Patsy Palmer’s 17-year-old son, Fenton Merkell.
The two actually have a surprising amount in common, with both of them working as models – Merkell and his younger sister Emilia are both signed to the same modelling agency, the Dragonfly Agency, in Los Angeles. The Palmer-Merkell family swapped London for LA back in 2014, after mum Patsy left her role as Bianca on Eastenders for the second time, and soon found themselves rubbing shoulders with the likes of Cindy Crawford and her husband Rande Gerber.
‘It’s very early days but they have grown close and seem very happy together,’ a source told The Sun. ‘You wouldn’t think it likely for sunny LA and rainy Walford to mix together. Fenton and Kaia have been close pals for a while through their mums’ friendship and in recent months it has grown into something more. It helps that they are both trying to make it in the same industry. Plus, Kaia has also become best friends with Emilia and they often hang out together.'
