Justin Bieber has shared a candid post on Instagram detailing the pressures of being a child star.
In the post, the singer - who was discovered by pop manager Scooter Braun at the age of 13 - admits that he ‘started doing heavy drugs at 19’ and that he ‘abused all of [his] relationships’.
‘Have you noticed the statistics of child stars and the outcome of their lives?’ he asked. ‘There is an insane pressure and responsibility put on a child who’s [sic] brain, emotions and frontal lobes (decision making) aren’t developed yet.’
He goes on to explain that he ‘didn’t grow up in a stable home’ and that his life was ‘flipped on its head’ when he was discovered. He admits that he had ‘millions in the bank’ at 18 and ‘access to whatever [I] wanted’ but ‘no skills in the real world’.
By 19, the musician says he was doing ‘pretty heavy drugs’ and ‘abused’ the relationships he was in, adding that he 'became resentful, disrespectful to women and angry'.
He added that he reached a moment when he was 20 where he had ‘made every bad decision you could have thought of and went from one of the most loved and adored people in the world to the most ridiculed, judged and hated person in the world’.
He says his life has now changed for the better – thanking his faith, and marriage to model Hailey Baldwin.
