Over the past few months, Justin Bieber has been incredibly candid about the difficulties he has endured while growing up as a child star. In September last year{
‘Have you noticed the statistics of child stars and the outcome of their lives?’ he asked his followers. ‘There is an insane pressure and responsibility put on a child who’s [sic] brain, emotions and frontal lobes (decision making) aren’t developed yet.’
And now, in his YouTube documentary Seasons, Justin has opened up about his struggle with drugs on camera for the first time. In the episode released yesterday, titled The Dark Season, the musician says that he started smoking weed when he was 13 and talks about becoming addicted to marijuana, lean (a combination of cough syrup and soda) and pills - admitting that he only stopped taking drugs because he thought he would die.
‘I decided to stop because I felt like I was dying,' he said. 'My security and staff were coming into the room at night to check my pulse. People don’t know how serious it got. Justin admitted that his addiction became ‘legit crazy scary', adding, ‘I was waking up in the morning and the first thing I was doing is popping pills and smoking a blunt and starting my day.'
In the first episode, the singer covered his mental health and struggles with anxiety. ‘Being human is challenging for everybody,’ he shared. ‘We're all struggling to some degree. We all have our individuals pains, and fears and anxieties, worries.’
