Doja Cat showed off a ring on her left hand while performing on stage at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Vegas last weekend. Funnily enough, some people thought that might mean she's engaged.
By showed off, we mean she knelt on the ground and offered out her left hand to the audience while singing, 'Rub it in their face, put a rock on her hand.' So fans can be forgiven for their confusion.
Within a matter of minutes fans were on social media writing, 'omg Doja Cat and Jospeh Quinn got engaged', 'JOSEPH QUINN AND DOJA CAT ARE ENGAGED????' and 'I don't know what to think I don't think she's engaged it's been a month'.
The 'Say So' singer was quick to clarify the rumours in a now-deleted tweet which read, 'No, I'm not engaged it's a David Yurman ring with no rocks in it.' Well, that's that then. If they're not planning a wedding, what's going on with Doja Cat and Joseph Quinn? Here's all we know so far.
How did Joseph Quinn and Doja Cat meet?
Singer Doja Cat, whose real name is Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini, and Joseph Quinn, who is best known for playing Eddie Munson in Netflix’s Stranger Things, reportedly met following a bout of internet flirtation in May 2022.
In another now-deleted tweet Doja wrote, 'joseph quinn fine as [sh--].' One X user then wrote, 'Doja look how fine Joseph Quinn is' to which she responded, 'It's f***ing criminal.' Having liked the first tweet himself, Netflix's official Instagram account even shared screenshots of the interaction.
Two months later, Doja slid into Joseph's co-star Noah Schnapp's DMs and said, 'Noah can u tell Joseph to [hit me up]. Wait no. Does he have a gf?'
The Stranger Things actor replied, 'LMAOO slide into his [DMs],' before sharing his Instagram profile with her – and then sharing the whole interaction online.
Unfortunately, this move didn't go down well with Doja who then took to Instagram live to call Noah a 'snake'. She said, 'The fact that Noah did that, like, went and posted a private conversation between me and him is so unbelievably socially unaware and whack. That’s borderline snake shit, that’s weasel shit. And I’m not saying that encapsulates his entire personality.
'Maybe he is, like, a whole snake. But I didn’t see him that way. I made an assumption that he was gonna be chill about it, and he went and shared information that I didn’t feel comfortable with him sharing.'
While some fans were on Doja's side, others were defending Noah, who was only 17 at the time of the exchange. Noah then posted on TikTok (which has since been deleted) saying, 'Guys everything is all good I apologized and I still follow her and love her music no hard feelings.'
He later told Variety: 'I’m super unserious on social media and pretty goofy, so I posted that not thinking too much of it, but obviously it hurt her feelings. So, as I should, I apologized and she was totally okay with it and was like, "I’m sorry how I reacted." It was all good. I love her. I’m, like, the biggest fan of her music, and I told her that. I was like, You’re literally my role model. It’s all good. People make such a big deal out of everything when it’s on the internet, but, like, in reality, it’s like a two-minute thing.'
As for Doja and Joseph's romance? The seeds were sewn, but all went quiet for the next two years...
How long have they been dating?
In July 2024, Joseph appeared on 'The Morning Mash Up' podcast with some extremely complimentary things to say about Doja and confirmed that they were spending time together. It turns out they had all successfully managed to laugh off the drama from 2022. The actor said, 'She’s very funny, she’s hilarious. We’ve like laughed about that whole thing. We went to go see her show, she’s incredibly talented.'
However, it wasn't until August that relationship rumours finally took off. According to gossip blog DeuxMoi, the singer was resting her head on the actor's shoulder at Dingwalls in Camden and, a few days later, they were spotted holding hands.
And, of course, in September, Doja prompted engagement rumours after showing off her David Yurman ring 'with no rocks on it' on stage, before swiftly shutting the rumours down.
In other words, it's a story with many twists and turns, but no rocks for now.
