Jodie Comer has been made a star through playing murderous assassin Villanelle in BBC hit Killing Eve. But if the rumours are to be believed, she's leaving bloody weapons behind for her next role. According to new reports, the British actress has been approached to play the kindly Miss Honey in a new Netflix adaptation of Roald Dahl's Matilda.

It's early days, but Jodie is said to have been tipped for the role. Netflix has already confirmed that they are working on several Roald Dahl adaptations, including Charlie and the Chocolate Factory from Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi, and a new version of The BFG. Matilda will be inspired by the hit musical from comedian Tim Minchin, and so far only one star has been confirmed: Ralph Fiennes, Oscar-nominated star of Schindler's List and The English Patient, has been linked with the role of Miss Trunchbull. Matilda's school's evil headmistress, Trunchbull is always played by a man in the stage adaptation.

It's not clear yet if Minchin's songs will remain in this new version, but if so, Jodie will need to warm up her pipes for numbers including Miss Honey's emotional solo My House.

Miss Honey is Matilda's first ever teacher. Sweet and caring, she is the antithesis of the child-throwing Trunchbull. Spoiler alert if, for some reason, you haven't read the classic book or seen the amazing film adaptation: Miss Honey is Trunchbull's secret niece, and Matilda fights in her corner to reclaim her father's legacy. She was played by Embeth Davidtz in the 1996 film, directed by and co-starring Danny DeVito.

Before that, though, Jodie will be seen in Alan Bennett's Talking Heads, an all-star revival filmed during lockdown.
