We are but weeks away from the 20th anniversary of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, and what better way for JK Rowling to celebrate than with the news she has been named 'wealthiest British entertainer' by Forbes.
Making a grand return to the top 100 rich list – after a three-year absence – the British author's annual earnings are thought to be around £75mill, making her the third most successful celeb in the world...
Her leap back up top this year is most likely due to three factors: the success of the publication of her two-part play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child (the fastest selling book published this decade), her earnings from The Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park at Universal Studios, and her screenplay for box office hit (and Harry Potter spin-off), Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
But who pipped JK Rowling to the post of MOST successful?
Naturally, Queen Bey was up there. What with the monumental success of her Formation tour and recent album Lemonade, we're hardly surprised she's earning a whopping £83mill (that's roughly, a hundred million dollars...) per annum. However, what IS a surprise is that she only came second.
Who came first?
Sean 'Diddy' Combs! (Aka Puff Daddy. And P. Diddy.)
Yes, the award-winning rapper, record producer and entrepreneur is taking home roughly £103million each year. How? Well, his 'Diddy's Bad Boy Family Reunion' Tour was incredibly successful, he has a not insignificant share in Ciroc vodka, and he recently sold a third of his Sean John clothing label for $70million too.
Are we more than a little jealous? We are! In fact we're thinking it might be time to use a little magic – JK Rowing-style – to help us on our way to acquiring the pay cheques of these uber successful stars.
Abracadabra...
No?
Guess it's back to the drawing board then. Sigh.
