Here at Grazia, we're big JK Rowling (read: Harry Potter) fans.
First there was the triumphant news of three more Harry Potter books, then there was the study that her readers are less likely to be Donald Trump supporters(which made her day). Now it’s been revealed that she has been booted off Forbes' Rich List because she's too charitable.
Yes, that's right, the world-famous author is no longer a billionaire thanks to her kind heart, having given away a staggering $160 million to good causes and even founded the charity Lumos which helps disadvantaged children in Eastern Europe.
Rowling said rather admirably of her charity work,’You have a moral responsibility when you’ve been given far more than you need, to do wise things with it and give intelligently.’
The Harry Potter creator knows better than most what it’s like to suffer financially. She has previously spoke out about her money struggles as a jobless single mother living off unemployment benefits and revealed how she wrote Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone on napkins in a cafe.
It's nice to see that despite becoming the world's first billionaire author, Rowling hasn't forgotten her humble beginnings and is keen to make a difference to other people's lives through charity as well as her magical novels.
As she poignantly told a theatre in 2008, ‘We do not need magic to transform our world. We carry all the power we need inside ourselves already. We have the power to imagine better.’
