Halloween in Hollywood comes early, and it happens at Casamigos. Stars were out in force for the annual soiree, which this year counted Paris Hilton, Halsey, Cindy Crawford, Gerard Butler and Ryan Philippe amongst the crowd. Costumes – as ever – were pretty spectacular across the board, but a clear winner emerged with the arrival of a-lister Jessica Biel. What had she gone for, you ask? Something scary? Something sexy? The answer is both, and neither: Biel dived head first into some serious 90s nostaligia, and dressed up as her husband Justin Timberlake in his excruciating *NSYNC days. It’s glorious, as pictures attest.
From the curly wig – remember that perm? – to the iridescent boiler suit, and from the narrow, tinted sun glasses to the blingy crucifix (phwoar), Jess’ ensemble called the catastrophe that was cusp-of-2000-fashion tumbling back from a memory bank that I, for one, had sincerely repressed. Accompanied, of course, by the man himself, Jessica’s husband Justin seemed resigned to his position as the butt of her joke and dressed as a microphone. Whatever your stance on couple costumes, you’ve got to admire Jessica’s staggering commitment to trolling her other half – especially considering that the sartorial decision came only days after Jessica’s lack of enthusiasm for Justin’s early musical stylings was revealed in a 1999 video played on Jimmy Fallon. The talk show host confronted his guest with the footage – filmed, let’s remember, before Jessica and Justin had crossed paths – where she reacts to a clip of *NSYNC music. ‘To be honest, I don’t really listen, I haven’t really. I mean I know of them, of course, and I’ve heard of them, and I’ve heard the music’, she says, before doubling down and explaining that ‘I don’t think I own any of their CDs. I’m not a huge fan, um, but, I mean, cool, I guess’. Yikes! How to make amends? Remind me – what’s the sincerest form of flattery?
Making up for lost time, Jessica’s delving deep into a love for *NSYNC she nearly missed out on – and it’s hard to imagine a more selfless gesture of atonement than willingly wearing those sunglasses. It may have been the couple’s first appearance at Casamigos’ yearly party, but Jessica’s efforts in particular have certainly cemented them in its legendary record books.
