Following yesterday’s #coatcontroversy, Jennifer Lawrence has taken to Facebook to address her critics.
In case you missed it, the Oscar-winning actress came under fire on Twitter for her sartorial choice at an outdoor photocall in London to publicise her new film Red Sparrow. The picture in question is of Lawrence in a black Versace gown (much like Elizabeth Hurley’s iconic safety pin dress), flanked by her male co-stars who were all dressed down in casual attire. Critics were quick to question why the men were wrapped up in warm clothes while Lawrence was just in a dress.
The story quickly went viral, and now Lawrence herself has responded.
Writing on Facebook she called the debacle ‘utterly ridiculous’, and stated she was ‘extremely offended’.
She then went on to defend her choice of outfit, and the right to choose itself.
‘I would have stood in the snow for that dress because I love fashion and that was my choice,’ Lawrence wrote.
‘This is sexist, this is ridiculous, this is not feminism,’ she continued.
‘Creating controversy over silly innocuous things such as what I choose to wear or not wear, is not moving us forward. It's creating silly distractions from real issues.'
