Just as we guessed, Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Schumer managed to steal the show at the Golden Globes last night.
While we’re a little gutted that our favourite A-list BFFs didn’t turn up to the ceremony in matching outfits as they’d previously promised (there’s still time, guys…), their riotous double act more than made up for it – and put host Ricky Gervais to shame.
The duo, who arrived at the event together, took to the stage to introduce clips from their films Joy and Trainwreck, both of which were nominated in the Best Film and Best Actress categories. Proving themselves to be funnier than basically everyone else in the room, J-Law and the newly named ‘A-Schu' (doesn’t quite work, does it?) then proceeded to make fun of their nicknames, celebrity crushes and an audience member trying to snap a sneaky picture.
J-Law had previously joked that the pair were ‘going to try to figure out how to wear the exact same thing,’ but in the end Jennifer chose a cut-out Dior couture gown while Amy wore a monochrome off-the-shoulder style by Prabal Gurung.
The pair went head to head in the Best Actress category, with Jennifer ultimately walking away with the award. Don't worry, though - Amy's not the jealous type. Speaking to a reporter backstage, Jennifer said: 'She's going to be fine. It wasn't a matter of feeling bad because she's funny and hilarious and will win many things. I just really expected Amy to win. This was very truly surprising for me.' As if we didn't love J-Law enough already...
Their award show double act gave audiences a taste of the duo’s latest project – a comedy film where they’ll be playing sisters. Speaking to the New York Times last summer, Jennifer said ‘It’s been the most fun experience of my life. We start the day off on the phone, laughing. And then we send each other pages. And we crack up.’
Could Jennifer and Amy follow the example of fellow A-list besties Tina Fey and Amy Poehler and host next year’s Golden Globes ceremony? Our fingers are firmly crossed.
