Jennifer Garner has been out of the spotlight for some time. Her last notable film appearance was in 2013’s Oscar-winning Dallas Buyer’s Club, while she was last seen on the small screen in her hit TV series Alias, which ended in 2006. Now she’s joining the televisual renaissance by signing up to star in Lena Dunham and fellow Girls producer Jenni Konner’s new show, Camping.
An adaptation of the British series of the same name, the show follows a group of friends embarking on a camping trip for a 45th birthday. Garner’s character has been described as ‘a controlling LA mom who is far less cheerful than her Lululemons imply’, while Konner and Dunham have said she is ‘messy, tough and provocative.’
Talking to Variety about casting the show, Konner and Dunham said: ‘We love Jennifer’s restraint and comedic timing, and we can’t wait for the warmth and intelligence she’ll bring to our central character, Kathryn. It’s truly a dream to have her first on our call sheet. Now we just have to write her some stunts.’
Garner has done comedy before, of course, when she starred in 13 Going on 30. More recently she’s been in the headlines for her on-again off-again relationship with Ben Affleck, while the couple go through a divorce.
