Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux have announced that they are separating after two and a half years of marriage.
In a joint statement released through Aniston’s publicist, Stephen Huvane, to the Associated Press, the couple said that their decision to part ways ‘was mutual and lovingly made at the end of last year,’ and that they had made a public announcement in an effort to dispel ‘any further speculation’ about the split.
‘In an effort to reduce any further speculation, we have decided to announce our separation. This decision was mutual and lovingly made at the end of last year. We are two best friends who have decided to part ways as a couple but look forward to continuing our cherished friendship,’ they wrote.
‘Normally we would do this privately, but given that the gossip industry cannot resist an opportunity to speculate and invent, we wanted to convey the truth directly. Whatever else is printed about us that is not directly from us, is someone else’s fictional narrative. Above all, we are determined to maintain the deep respect and love that we have for one another.'

The couple met on the set of the film Wanderlust in 2011, in which they co-starred, and got engaged in August 2012. They married three years later, in a low-key ceremony at their Bel-Air home.
In the most recent issue of Architectural Digest, Jennifer gave a brief insight into her life with her husband. ‘There was a time when I thought there was something romantic about picking up and trotting off somewhere different every three months,’ she said. ‘Now I’m becoming more particular about the projects I take. I look around at my husband and my dogs and our home, and there’s nowhere else I want to be.’
The marriage was Theroux’s first and Aniston’s second. The actress was previously married to Brad Pitt for five years, before divorcing in 2005.
