This weekend was abuzz with Oscars antics, as the great and the good geared up to attend the year’s most anticipated awards ceremony. Among them, some of our favourite A Listers – Jennifer Aniston, and John Mayer. It’s probably been a while since you read their names in the same sentence (unless it was one which began ‘herewith a list of very famous people’) as they split more than a decade ago – in 2009, after a short relationship.
Imagine our excitement, then, when the duo were spotted together last week. Eating dessert, no less. Romantic? No. Make like John and Jen and GROW UP, guys! There’s nothing wrong with hanging out with an ex, and there’s plenty right with nurturing friendships with people who were once central to your life. In fact, and provided we’re talking run of the mill heartbreak rather than anything darker, I’d call it a sign of a healthy, well-adjusted adult.
Jen’s pretty exemplary, when it comes to exes/good terms. We all went equally bananas when her and ex-husband Brad Pitt were photographed being nice to each other on the red carpet – and however keen we are on the fairy tale of long-lost lovers reconciling, there’s plenty wrong with jumping to conclusions. 1) Jen’s heartbroken, and pining (boring, as well as misogynist). 2) Men and women can’t have platonic relationships (ditto). 3) Any contact with an ex must be an attempt at rekindling, because normally we pretend they never existed.
Let’s all try a bit harder to Do A Jen in future, shall we? With reports that the dessert came with a side of birthday planning (Jen’s 51st is coming up tomorrow, February 11th), it sounds like the pair will be seeing each other again soon. Kudos to you, Jen.

Evil Stepmother: Idina Menzel
Musical theatre legend Idina Menzel is lending her acting chops to the film, taking on the iconic role of the Evil Stepmother. Confirmed in October 2019, Idina will channel her inner Lady Tremaine as she was known in Disney's original animated classic from 1950 - but who knows if there will be any similarities? Idina is best known for originating the role of Elphaba the Witch in Wicked the Musical on Broadway, but is now also well-known for her voice role as Elsa in Disney's Frozen and its sequel, as well as her role in Glee. Idina also played the role of Nancy Tremaine in Enchanted, who was named after Cinderella's stepmother.
