We hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if he were planning on going to the cinema to see Fifty Shades Of Grey in the hope of seeing some unadulterated peen then you’re going to be hugely disappointed, because Jamie Dornan has just admitted to signing contract stating he won’t be shown nude in the film.
The dreamy Northern Irish actor, 32, was asked if there were any nude scenes and he said: ‘There were contracts in place stating that viewers wouldn't see my, um, my todger.’
Let’s, for one second, ignore the fact that Jamie just said the word ‘todger’ and think about how right-royally unfair this all is. Apparently, there will be images showing a naked Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele getting spanked, but when it comes to male nudity on screen viewers will have to – as usual in Hollywood films – leave things up to their imagination. Fifty Shades might be selling itself as a boundary pushing exploration of sadomasochism, but when it comes to male vs female nudity on screen, it looks like it’s still pretty pedestrian.
And as if that wasn’t enough to turn us off the idea of paying a tenner to see it at the cinema (it was), Jamie was also determined to let you know how unsexy shooting the sex scenes really were: ‘Anyone who thinks actors get turned on doing sex scenes in films is mistaken. ‘There are dozens of hairy men standing around, moving cables and lighting equipment. That's not sexy unless you're into being watched, which I'm not.’
Dornan, who was pictured recently back on the Fifty Shades set for reshoots did, however, respond to the criticism that the film promotes sexual violence adding: ‘I think it's very hard to argue that when it is all consensual. Half the book is about making contracts. Permission and agreement that this be done. There's no rape, no forced sexual situations.
‘All I can say is, wait until you see it before passing judgement.’
Fifty Shades comes out on Valentine's Day next year, so we’ll have a little while to wait, but we’ll try to take your word for it, Jamie.
