Jamie Dornan Insists 50 Shades Of Grey Isn’t Anti-Women

He says the BDSM-filled film isn't going to be misogynistic and that more people than you'd think enjoy being spanked with a paddle...

With just over a month to go until the Valentine's Day release of 50 Shades Of Grey, Jamie Dornan is steeling himself for criticism of the film's treatment of women. The book stirred controversy for showing a BDSM relationship where submission of women was a focal point, but Jamie promises that the film version, where he plays Christian Grey opposite Dakota Johnson's Anastasia Steele, will be a lot more appreciative of women.

I can understand why people say tying a woman up and spanking her is misogynistic. But actually, more men are submissive than women. Very powerful men,' he told Elle.

'The love story is more important than the BDSM aspect. I mean, we are going to tell a love story, you know, it can’t just be what happens in the Red Room, that’s not a film. There’s so much more going on than that.'

He also spoke of how BDSM happens a lot more commonly than we might assume: 'It’s a far bigger scene than I imagined: in pretty much any city in the world that you could name, people want to get spanked with a paddle with studs on it'

Well, fingers crossed for everyone involved - including every single one of us who will feel oddly compelled to watch the film adaptation - that it's a bit more enjoyable (or just as enjoyable, whatever floats your boat) as a paddle-led spanking. And a load less wooden.
