Got your fingers crossed that Grantchester actor, James Norton, might be about to take on the role of 007? Thought about putting a bet on it...?
Keep your money in your pocket. That's the message the British heartthrob wants to put out.
Discussing the new BBC series McMafia – specifically, the opening scene where he appears looking suave and 'Bond-esque' in black tie – James told The Radio Times, 'I did say to James Watkins, the director, are you just baiting me and stoking the rumour fire with scenes like that?
'When it’s reported in the press, people assume that I’ve co-ordinated the scene, but I promise you I didn’t. The truth is that it’s total speculation.'
He continued, ‘It’s really humbling and flattering, but to have my name [in the mix for Bond] next to the likes of Tom Hardy and Michael Fassbender is just mad.
'If you’re thinking of putting a bet on me, keep your money in your pocket.'
Is that him out of the running then? So it would seem...
Speculation has been rife for months about who will next take on the role of Britain's best-loved spy. And as James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli told The Daily Mail recently – when asked if we could expect a female or a black Bond – 'These films tend to reflect the times so we always try to push the envelope a little bit.
'Right now it's Daniel Craig, and I'm very happy with Daniel Craig, but who knows what the future will bring?
Who indeed? Others stars thought to be in the running include Idris Elba and Tom Hiddleston, but as to who will ultimately get to utter the immortal words, 'Bond, James Bond', well, it seems there's still all to play for.
Blake Lively, a.k.a. Serena van der Woodson in Gossip Girl, completely reinvented her last name. She was born Blake Ellender Brown, but Lively suits her just perfectly.
