Jameela Jamil and Taylor Swift are both incredible women. Working as such high-profile figures in the entertainment industry, they're always breaking boundaries and questioning the patriarchy. As well as being an actress, Jameela is just as well known for being an activist, meanwhile, on Taylor's last album, she dedicated a whole song - The Man - to sexist double standards.
Attending the Grammys last night - with her boyfriend musician James Blake - Jameela showed her support for the popstar speaking out against injustices in the music industry. ‘There's ridiculous double standards in this industry,’ the activist-slash-actress said before the ceremony. ‘It's really good she's spoken out. She's done this continuously and we're in support of any woman who speaks out.’
(Last week, when opening up about her struggle with disordered eating, Taylor cited Jameela as someone who really helped her to recover. ‘I love people like Jameela Jamil, because she says things in a really articulate way,’ she told Variety. ‘The way she speaks about body image, it’s almost like she speaks in a hook.’)
At the ceremony, Jameela looked stunning in a blue metallic Georges Chakra couture gown, with mesh leg panels. But forever a girl after our own hearts, Jameela decided to opt for ASOS boots instead of painful heels. ‘What you see and what you don’t see,’ she tweeted after the show. ‘My @ASOS boots under my @GeorgesChakra couture. Because a girl needs to be comfortable.’ Honestly, we want to attend an awards ceremony with her one day.
