Jaden Smith is set to play Kanye West– but there’s a twist, as Smith is set to play West from - wait for it - an ‘alternate universe.’
The 20-year-old actor will play a younger version of the rapper in West’s upcoming TV show. Details are pretty thin on the ground, but according to reports from Variety, Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter, the half-hour anthology is called Omniverse and will ‘[examine] the many doors of perception.’
West is going to be an executive producer on the series, alongside Scooter Braun, and it will be written by Silicon Valley’s Lee Sung Jin. Lee Sung Jin said in a statement, ‘I’m honoured and thrilled to be collaborating with everyone involved to present an alternate world through the eyes of a young man somewhere in the multiverse who happens to also be a Kanye West. Omniverse is not set in our world nor about our world’s Kanye West as we aim to add a new spin on alternate realities, consciousness, and push the limits of half hour narrative.’
Jaden, the son of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, made his acting debut in All Of Us at the age of five. He went on to star with his dad in the The Pursuit of Happyness and again in the 2013 film After Earth. He's also starred in blockbuster films The Day The Earth Stood Still and The Karate Kid.
While we wait for the new series, look below for pics of Kanye actually smiling...
