'The Line Of Duty x Jackie Weaver crossover was everything I didn’t know I needed.'

Just when we thought this year couldn't get any weirder, it does. The first live event at the O2 happened tonight, as the Brits kicked off - and we had a very special guest opening the proceedings. None other viral parish council superstar Jackie Weaver. (In case you haven't been on the internet this year, Jackie went viral a few months ago in a very chaotic Handforth Parish Council meeting where she kicked male councillors off the Zoom call.)

And, as if it couldn't get any more iconic, she was joined by the stars of Line of Duty and host Jack Whitehall. The skit - which included Vicky McClure and Martin Compston - made many references to the record-breaking series, including Ted Hasting’s famous 'Mother of God!' catchphrase.

Safe to say it went down a treat with audiences at home. Singer-songwriter Mae Muller tweeted, 'the line of duty x jackie weaver crossover was everything i didn’t know i needed.' Another said, 'Obsessed with Jackie Weaver being in the opening of the Brit Awards Raising hands 2020/2021 keeps getting more and more bizarre.' A third added, 'Jackie Weaver just went to new levels - priceless.'

Jackie herself wrote after the skit, 'Delighted to have been part of the opening of the #brits2021 - make sure you read the standing orders and subscribe to my new podcast @Jackieweaverpod'

We're glad the Brits continues to be completely wild, tbh.

So far, Little Mix have been awarded Best British Group - making history as the first girl group to win the award, and gave a powerful speech paying tribute to the girl groups before them - and Arlo Parks has been awarded Breakthrough Artist. Taylor Swift is also set to be awarded the Global Icon award.
