20 years ago, a book titled ‘I Love Dick’ hit bookshelves. Not many, we might add, and it was both critically and commercially panned upon release. Skip to 2012, and ILD was selling around 1,000 copies a year. In 2015, the part novel, part memoir written by Chris Kraus - centred on a married woman (Chris) who becomes obsessed with another man (Dick) - was published in the UK for the very first time.

Why is this all important? In a post-Girls world, ‘I Love Dick’ has become something of a cult feminist classic in 2017. The cover craves attention. Much like its protagonist and narrator Chris; a smart, complicated, and frustrated independent film-maker (who loves Dick and loves dick - something the world wasn't quite ready for in 1997).

It’s funny yes, but at its very core it dissects desire, love and the politics of modern-day relationships between men and women like no other. For anyone who has ever fallen for that guy who is, well, just not that nice to you but you keep going back for more (really - who hasn't been there?)...You need to watch the buzzed TV adaption - available to stream on Amazon Prime - asap.

Two decades later, it’s worth the wait. Jill Soloway, the creator of the award-winning show Transparent, is the mastermind behind the new series. It also shines the spotlight on one of Hollywood’s most under-rated talents: Kathryn Hahn. The actress has some impressive credits behind her, from Parks and Recreation to How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, but up until now has often been cast as the funny side-kick rather than scene-stealing leading lady. Oh, and get ready for the Kevin Bacon comeback too. The Footloose actor / '80s pin-up / EE brand ambassador exudes ‘bad boy’ charm in the titular role, challenging Chris every opportunity he can get.

‘The show plays around with the limits and attractions of traditional gender roles, the challenges of being in a committed relationship and the importance (or lack thereof) of modern art,’ Variety says. ‘As well as ideas about connection, oppression and how identities and energies can be co-opted or harnessed.’
