Iggy Azalea has confirmed the plastic surgery she had done to her face – you know, the ‘work’ that caused such a stir when she turned up at the Billboard Awards in May.
The rapper looked markedly different on the red carpet and no one could put their finger on what had caused the transformation to her face… until now.
‘I’m not denying it. Denying it is lame. I don’t think you should be ashamed if you made a change to yourself, which is why I’ve spoken about the changes I’ve made, like with my breasts,' she told Seventeen
‘Your perception of yourself can change a lot over time, so I think it’s important to wait and make sure it’s the right choice. Plastic surgery is an emotional journey.’
She added: ‘It’s no easy feat to live with your flaws and accept yourself – and it’s no easy feat to change yourself. Either way you look at it, it’s a tough journey.
‘There are things that I didn’t like about myself that I changed through surgery. There are other things I dislike but I’ve learned to accept. It’s important to remember you can’t change everything. You can never be perfect.’
But, if any young women would like to follow her on a quest to shave off/plump up all the bits that make you a little different (she recently spoke about a boob job, too), she recommended they do their research: ‘I read a lot about nose jobs online. Some women are really happy they got them, and some women changed their noses when they were younger, and when they got older they wished they didn't.’
While it’s so utterly admirable to just ’fess up to the work you’ve had done (there’s way too many celebrities pretending their look is achievable when actually, no, not even God made them that ‘perfect’), we do wonder.
If feeling so sad about your looks (Iggy was pretty beautiful before the surgery) that undergoing a scalpel to the face is considered somehow empowering or enriching, then we’re definitely living in a strange old world. And shame on any world that makes someone as conventionally pretty as Iggy feel physically flawed.
