As a PE teacher, cricket player and reality star, Love Island’s Hugo Hammond has got many strings to his bow. He can even sing, as showcased when footage of him belting out Sam Smith’s I’m Not The Only One resurfaced on social media while he was in the villa.
But Hugo’s recently been trying his hand at another musical talent and it’s fair to say that it’s definitely dividing opinions online.
The 2021 Islander shared a video of him rapping earlier this week as he took on the WYD Now TikTok challenge with an original verse about his Love Island experience.
In the clip, which has had over 1million views, Hugo raps, “2022, looking back on 21, started teaching, lots of learning, it was kind of fun. Then she left me, I was feeling all alone so I signed up to that villa application on my phone. Hit the gym, something came, Mr H flew out to Spain.
“But then the summer of love turned into the summer of pain. Got the job done, flew back single, I was the same. But when I meet girls now, do they want me or just the name?"
While Hugo acknowledged that he was trying “something different” in the caption, many viewers took to the comments section to brand the video “awkward”.
“When you learn poetry in year 7,” joked one.
Another added, “New ick unlocked”, while a third wrote, “When I say I'm cackling.”
However, others defended Hugo and even compared him to rap icon Eminem.
One impressed fan wrote, “Is there anything Hugo can't do?”

In other Love Island news, Hugo’s ex Amy recently went public with her new man following their failed romance. The Casa Amor bombshell admitted she was seeing someone when we caught up with her at Winter Wonderland in November when she told us, “They're definitely not [a Love Island star]. He was actually on the last series of Shipwrecked.”
The identity of Amy’s mystery man was revealed earlier this month as none other than Shipwrecked: Battle of the Islands star Patrick Deaco, who won the E4 show in 2019 as part of The Tigers team.
Amy told OK!, “I went on the show, came out and we just both naturally messaged each other saying, 'I'm still single, would you want to see me again?' And it's made us realise we actually have something special, so yeah it's all been a bit crazy!”
She added, “I just feel really content, I've also just moved in with him. We're doing the flat up so it's a manic time to move in but you've got to have your challenges in the relationship so this is a good one. I feel really content which is so nice, I found a man which is what I kept stressing, I needed a man and I found a man.”
