Pharrell Williams and his big brown hat were talk of the town following the Grammys. The hat got so much press, it spawned not only a parody Twitter account with 19,000+ followers, but its very own conspiracy theory.
The Vivienne Westwood Buffalo hat, which looks a bit too frontiersman/Canadian Mounty for Pharrell to have debuted it with a stripy Adidas bomber, has proved such a talking topic, Pharrell has sold its likeness – and some other hats – on eBay. We’d not known Pharrell to be a prolific hat-wearer of the same ranking as, say, Dappy from N-Dubz or Alex Mack, but he's so obsessed with this one,he even wore it to the official 2014 Academy Awards nominees’ luncheon. The singer, who's nominated for his song, Happy, which features on the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack, stood at the back of the photo, presumably so no one's face would be blocked by it.
While he was wearing the hat, he was also selling its distant German cousin on eBay. The singer, who has his links with eBay (check out this picture of him and Solange hanging out at eBay HQ a few months ago) has put together a gallery of hats you can buy. And the Buffalo one, sold by someone in Germany, went for a whopping £291. Now, it’s not his actual line of hats, nor are any of them Pharrell’s, but eBay have scored a neat trick in getting him to promo this feature. Because look, we're talking about it!
