Excuse us if we get a little carried away with our One Direction obsession. It’s not the boys – but their fandom, who await with bated breath every bit of news about their favourite boyband, and will go to lengths like no other to support them.
Anyway, one such show of support has been when 1D’s fans kept #BeCarefulHarry trending on social media every now and then for the past few weeks. The goal was to make Harry aware of someone threatening to kill him at the band’s Met Life stadium gig in New Jersey.
The threat was reported by Mr X, an anonymous tipster who’s somehow been on the money with other predictions eg:
So a lot of the fandom took it seriously, with the impending death of one of their heroes, adding to other woes, eg Louis Tomlinson’s bombshell baby news, Zayn and Perrie’s split, Zayn’s solo career, Liam tweeting to complain that he can’t walk around the middle of New York without being ‘followed chased and cornered like an animal’ by paparazzi.
Tributes to Harry poured in overnight, but he survived the night and the performance went off without a hitch. So it looks as if he’ll live to see another day of obsessive fans and endurance-stretching world tours. Great news all round, unless you’re a Directioner who’s spent the past few weeks of what could’ve been a very relaxing summer holiday being het up about a hoax death threat.
