The world has often questioned what we did to deserve Harry Styles, the fashion forward, LGBTQ+ supporting and new age pop star extraordinaire has continued to push boundaries since going solo after One Direction, and it seems his fans aren’t half as bad either after raising over £5,000 for charity for his 26th birthday.
The fundraiser began in August last year, and since then, fans have rallied to show their support.
In total, $6,885 (around £5,200) has been raised for the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund, a non-profit organisation dedicated to helping children whose lives have been destroyed because of war in the Middle East.
Their aim is to build the most effective and efficient humanitarian relief in which every child receives the treatment and care they need, while improving the Palestinian health services in the Lebanese refugee camps and occupied territories.
The Palestinian charity was chosen after Harry himself has offered support to refugees in the Middle East through donations to organisations like Action Against Hunger and children’s charities like Children In Need.
But this isn’t the first time fans have raised money in honour of the singers birthday, in previous years they have donated to LGBTQ+ charities and the Ric O’Barry Dolphin Project.
And it seems like the fans selfless work might just be inspiring Harry to do the same. After his debut solo tour concluded in 2018, Variety reported that the 10 month world tour raised over $1.2million in donations for 62 charities worldwide, including Time’s Up and the We Love Manchester Emergency Fund.
"We’re living in a time where it’s impossible not to be aware of what’s going on in the world. Society has never been so divisive. It’s important to stand up for what we think is right." Harry told actor Timothée Chalamet in a conversation with i-D.
As if we needed another reason to love Harry Styles anymore.
