This weekend’s annual Remembrance Day proceedings saw royal duos Meghan and Harry and William and Kate gather at the Royal Albert Hall on Saturday night and at the Cenotaph (on Sunday, images above and below) in memorial of those who have lost their lives in conflict.

The solemn affair on Saturday night marked the first joint public appearance for brothers Harry and William along with their wives since the release of an emotional documentary featured the Sussexes opening up about their struggles with life in the spotlight. In the candid interview with ITV’s Tom Bradby, Harry was more open than many anticipated he might be – addressing rumours of friction with his brother, the youngest son of Prince Charles explained that he and his brother are now on ‘different paths’, and that they have ‘good days’ and ‘bad days’ when it comes to their relationship. The ceremony at the Royal Albert Hall saw the couples sitting far apart, rather than on either side of the Queen in the Royal Box like last year.

Also in attendance were the queen herself, more duchesses, dukes, earls and countesses than you could shake a stick at (Cornwall, Gloucester, Kent, Wessex), not to mention the Prime Minister and his girlfriend Carrie Symonds.

2019's ceremony marked 75 years since the 1944 battles of Monte Cassino, Kohima, Impal and D-Day, as well as the centenary of GCHQ. Performances from Leona Lewis, James Blunt and Jeff Goldblum alongside the Central Band of the Royal Air Force and Band of HM Royal Marines, were accompanied by a moving tribute played by Trumpeters of the Household Cavalry. Servicemen and women, as well as veterans, attended in their hundreds, and the audience heard testimonies from survivors of conflict as well as their loved ones.

The now-10-year tradition of London cabbies offering free rides to Veterans for their annual march past the cenotaph continued today, with participating taxis displaying a Poppy Cab logo in their windows.
