He’s already appeared on more than his fair share of cake – see Instagram account Drake on Cake for drool-worthy pastries – but is Canada’s number one performer going to turn up in Gilead?

Last summer The Handmaid’s Tale author Margaret Atwood sparked all manner of internet excitement when, in an interview with the Boston Review, she said that she wanted fellow Canadian Drake to make a cameo in the eagerly anticipated second season of the dystopian drama.

Speaking to Junot Díaz about how currently there are two Canadian global superstars (we’re guessing that they forgot about the country’s heartthrob Prime Minister Justin Trudeau) – Drake and Margaret Atwood – the five-times Booker prize winning novelist confirmed that while they don’t run in the same circles and she’s never met the musician, she thinks that it would be fun for him to make a cameo. Getting fans all worked up she said, “I’ll drop that notion into the ear of Bruce Miller, the showrunner, and see what he can do with that, because of course the show is filmed in Toronto. Maybe Drake could help smuggle someone?”

Now stars from the multi-award-winning Hulu series have reignited the speculation that Drake might just make an appearance in Gilead by suggesting potential roles for him.

Samira Wiley, the incredible actress who plays fan-favourite Moira, speaking to Vulture said, "Who would he play? Maybe Offred’s third baby daddy,” continuing, "They would [make cute babies]!"

Before Elisabeth Moss’ on-screen husband O.T. Fagbenle jokingly interjected, "She has to watch her mouth, I’ll tell you that right now. That’s not happening. My wife has been shared enough, thank you very much." But the star who plays Luke did have his own suggestion for who Drake could play, "He’s gonna play my brother, what are you talking about?! Isn’t that obvious? Luke’s brother, the singer, comes into Toronto. I mean, it writes itself."

While the actress who plays the now-blind-in-one-eye handmaid Janine, Madeline Brewer, had ideas of her own, “I think Drake could be an Eye or a Commander or something. I’d be into that, I mean, Janine’s always trying to run away with somebody, why not Drake?”

Whether it’s all a joke, who knows, but until the show’s return this April, we’re holding out hope that Drake will bring his Hotline Bling to Gilead.
